Identification of Reducing Substances in Nephritic Urine

چکیده

Analytical Methods-The total and non-fermentable reducing substances in the urine were determined by the gasometric methods of Van Slyke and Hawkins (2) and recorded in terms of glucose. Diurnal Excretion of Reducing Xubstances-In the two cases studied the daily amount of fermentable and non-fermentable reducing substances excreted was determined on several successive days. The diurnal excretion was determined on 3 hour specimens during a 24 hour period. The results are recorded in Figs. 1 and 2. The concentration of total reducing substances in the urine of Case I varied mostly between 0.84 and 0.96 per cent, with 0.12 to 0.15 per cent non-ferment,able. In Case II the total reducing substances were about 0.20 per cent, of which 0.06 per cent was nonfermentable. Decolorization and Removal of Protein from Urine-The urine samples used were slightly acid to litmus. Alcohol was added to make a 20 per cent alcoholic solution, since in such a solution the amount of reducing substances adsorbed on charcoal during decolorization is reduced from 20 per cent of the total to 3 per cent

Protective effect of ganoderan on renal damage in rats with chronic glomerulonephritis.

PURPOSE To investigate the protective effect of ganoderan on renal damage in rat models with chronic glomerulonephritis induced by adriamycin. METHODS 48 healthy Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: control, nephritic model and ganoderan treatment groups. Changes of the following indices in the three groups were observed 6 weeks after treatment: 24-hour urine protein, ...

Reducing substances in urine: a paradigm for changes in a standard test.

Detection of reducing substances in urine has been a standard laboratory procedure for about 50 yr. It is used as a screening test for inborn errors of carbohydrate metabolism. Although the test has poor specificity and most states perform mandatory newborn screening for the common genetic defects, most clinical laboratories still perform this as a reflex test on all pediatric urine samples. We...

Application of Serological and DNA Methods for the Identification of Urine Specimen Donors.

Recent implementation of urine drug-screening policies in the workplace has resulted in an increase in the submission of substituted urine specimens. Donor verification of urine specimens often becomes necessary when the origin of a specimen is in question or when a positive drug test is contested. Methods reported for the identification of the urine donor include the analysis of blood group an...

Hydrolysis of Conjugates of Urinary Corticoids with P-glucuronidase

Hydrolysis of conjugates of urinary neutral reducing lipides by means of /?-glucuronidase of bacterial origin, as described in Paper I of this series (I), permits the extraction from urine of much larger amounts of these substances than may be obtained by extraction of acidified urine in separatory funnels. The isolation of a crystalline reducing steroid from normal urine which had been treated...
